Marketing services for trades, and where to start

Most marketing advice for contractors is written as if every trade were the same business. It isn't. A plumber's best lead arrives at 11 p.m. from someone standing in water, while a landscaper's best lead is a homeowner planning a patio in February for a June install. Trades.Marketing starts from that difference and builds the marketing for your trade, your season and your part of Canada.

Eighteen trades, eighteen different buying patterns

The single most useful question in trades marketing is: how long does your customer take to decide? The answer splits the trades into three groups, and each group needs a different mix.

Decision speed Example trades What wins the job
Minutes (urgent) Plumbers, electricians, HVAC, locksmiths, garage doors Being visible in the map pack, answering the phone, fast reviews
Days (planned repair) Roofers, eavestrough and siding, foundations and waterproofing, masonry and chimneys Photos of real work, clear process, credibility on the first visit
Weeks (project) Renovators, painters, landscapers, flooring, windows and doors, fencing and decks, carpentry, concrete, drywall and insulation Portfolio pages, seasonal content, follow-up on quotes

If your trade sits in the first row, money spent on brand videos before your Google Business Profile is fixed is money spent in the wrong order. If you sit in the third row, cheap clicks that never see your portfolio rarely become signed contracts. Our trade-by-trade marketing playbook goes through all 18 trades in detail, with seasonality, job-value drivers and how customers search.

What we do, and what we don't

We are a marketing and business consulting service. We plan, build and run the parts of your marketing that bring in calls, texts and quote requests, and we advise owners on pricing, positioning and growth. We are not a contractor: we don't install, repair or service anything, and we will never compete with you for a job.

The work falls into five areas, each with its own page:

The services overview explains which one to start with, depending on your trade and how much work you already have.

Check the maths before you spend

A marketing plan for a trade should survive a two-minute calculation. Say your average job is worth $2,400 and your gross margin is 40%, so each job leaves $960 before overhead. If you close 35% of the quotes you run, and a lead costs you $80, each won job costs about $229 in marketing ($80 ÷ 0.35). That is under a quarter of the gross profit, which most owners can live with.

Now change one number. If your close rate drops to 15% because nobody follows up on quotes, the same $80 lead costs $533 per job, more than half the gross profit. Nothing changed in the ads; the leak was in the office. That is why we ask about your close rate and your phone handling before we talk about ad budgets. The budget guide walks through this with three trades side by side.

Proof from our HVAC work

Our published results come from HVAC and heating companies, which is where the method was built. We show them as results from our HVAC work, not as plumbing or roofing results. Roma Heating & Cooling saw 400% organic traffic growth in 12 months. BCWide.ca reached 3× leads in 90 days. HeatLand recorded a 300% lead increase in 6 months on the back of 850+ SEO articles.

What carries over to other trades is the method: service pages for every job you want more of, a properly built Google Business Profile, tracked calls, and review requests sent while the customer is still happy. The results page explains what each case shows and what does and doesn't transfer.

Coverage across Canada

We work with trades in every province and territory, from Surrey to St. John's and up to Iqaluit. Marketing changes with the map: Quebec has French-language rules for advertising, Ontario restricts who can advertise electrical work, the Prairies have long heating seasons that shape demand for several trades, and Nunavut requires Inuktut in commercial advertising. The areas we serve page links to a guide for each region, with the regulators and programs to know as of October 2026.

When you call, text or email, you reach a senior strategist, not a call centre. Read more about how we work, see plans and pricing, or go straight to contact.

How it works

  1. Tell us your trade and your numbers

Your average job value, your busy and slow months, and where your work comes from today. Those three facts decide almost everything else.

  2. Get a plan that matches how your customers search

An emergency trade needs to be found in minutes; a renovation trade needs to be trusted over weeks. We build the plan around that difference, with costs in writing.

  3. Start with one conversation

No forms, no sales funnel. Call, text or email; you'll talk to a senior strategist.

Frequently asked questions

What is Trades.Marketing?

Trades.Marketing is a Canadian digital marketing and business consulting service for trades and home-service businesses. It is part of the Sedighi.ca and SAZ.ca group, headquartered in Vancouver, BC, and led by Ali Sedighi, MBA.

Do you do any of the trade work yourselves?

No. We are not a contractor. We market and advise trades businesses; we never install, repair or service anything, and we never send crews to a job.

Which trades do you work with?

Eighteen trades, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, roofing, painting, landscaping, renovation, flooring, windows and doors, foundations and waterproofing, fencing and decks, and locksmiths. Our trade-by-trade playbook explains how marketing differs for each one.

How much does it cost?

Plans start at $1,999 per month, or $1,499 per month on annual billing, plus GST/HST based on your province (GST and QST in Quebec). Plans are month-to-month with 30 days' notice to cancel, and the first 30-minute consultation is free for eligible trades businesses.

Can you promise a certain number of leads?

No, and you should be wary of anyone who does. We can show you the maths behind a plan, what similar work produced for our HVAC clients, and exactly how we will measure results each month.

Do you work outside BC?

Yes. We work with trades in all 10 provinces and 3 territories. Each region page explains the local regulators, climate and buyer habits that shape marketing there.
